Comment:

 Gnome/Compiz displays the urgency notification by flashing the taskbar
 entry and leaving it highlighted until the window receives focus.  This is
 also how it works for me using Gnome/Metacity, KDE3/Kwin, and KDE4/Kwin
 (and on Windows XP last time I tried it--probably about a year ago).  I
 expect the same from a KDE/Compiz setup.

 I just tested on KDE4/Compiz and the urgent hint doesn't seem to be
 recognized/working there, either (in addition to KDE3/Compiz).  I think it
 must be a problem with the way the KDE taskbar communicates with Compiz,
 since Kwin seems to have no problem.

 While I would like the support for demands_attention in Pidgin, I can see
 where you are coming from and at least I have an idea now of where the
 issue lies.
