 I fail to see how it means the important bit is "usually [...] hidden" and
 the fact that with the automatic resizing it can be unhidden without
 requiring manual resizing is the whole point of the automatic resizing
 (previously you would need to constantly resize to view it all or always
 keep your input area enormous which meant that your history area was
 tiny). I really don't understand how more people weren't annoyed by
 needing to constantly resize the input area when they wanted to see longer
 IMs before sending them, but <shrug>.
