Comment (by deryni):

No, enhancements are not about feelings they are about needs and desires.
The enhancements that we take most seriously are the ones that come from a
real need or a real benefit that can be gotten and not those that come
from plain desire for something. The issue here is that we have attempted
to take into account all the need/usage based comments we have gotten (and
in fact they are why the maximum size is now half the window instead of
four lines) and have so far not given in to the desire based comments like
"I really want the old manual resize back now, thanks" or the demand based
ones "give me the old behaviour back now, damnit". This distinction has
seemingly not well been understood or accepted by those people who want
the old behaviour back "now". You don't need to downgrade to get what you
want, there is both a plugin (in ticket #5296) for this and a fork (by the
ridiculous name of funpidgin) that you can use to get this behaviour back.
Given your comment before would you accept it if the minimum size were
four or size lines? That is would that be enough for you without manual
 resizing control?

I would like to suggest that further discussion of this not take place in
this ticket as this ticket may in fact have been referring to a real
problem that may still need tracking down. (The horribly huge and
overblown ticket #4986 is a better place for this, though I really wish
that ticket would end already, but there are a number of comments I need
to read in it still but I think it might be winding down finally.)
