Comment (by megaloman):
First thing: reason "I don't like it" is a good reason - people are
different, software *should* be flexible. Read other bugs comments, you'll
see what I am talking about. Developers are just ignoring users and their
needs - many people registered here just to vote for a simple option. I do
understand that developers think, they idea is brilliant, but its not for
many of your users. Saying to them "go and fuck yourself" is not a good
approach.
Second thing: Developers are ignoring all comments. Some one wrote clearly
- developers want to force their solution, they admit they want to improve
it to suit most of users, but they are avoiding any comments and reasons
to make it optional. Look at gnome - by default it works in controversial
"spatial" mode, but there is option to switch its behaviour to browse
mode. Why it's so hard to understand for pidgin developers, that users
want flexibility, not being forced to use solution they don't like.
Third think: I don't know what to do with this plugin, I am not a
developer. I don't want to use fork, as I prefer to use original pidgin.
From my side: My argument "I don't like it" is (in my opinion) very strong
and I don't understand why developers are trying to be a god and - do they
really know better what I like or not? do they really know what is better
for me?
As I said it many times - flexibility is a key to success, not going
backwards. Flexibility is a really strong argument, but I can clearly see,
that developers are not keen to take any argument into account, they just
ignoring all arguments and at the same time they are asking for a really
good one! for a god sake, read users responds carefully - you've got
thousands of good reasons to make it optional!
An the best at the end: no one asks about dropping a new behaviour, more:
everyone is happy to leave this as a default feature, but users want to
have an option. saying to them "go and fuck yourself" is not a good
approach. Do you get my point? I bet you're not.
