 Try switching GTK+ themes to something other than the MS-Windows theme.
 I'm using Raleigh and I don't see that at all, I have well over a thousand
 lines in my input area at the moment (I stopped counting at 100 when the
 scroll marker was still very close to the top) and there is only minute
 momentary delay as I scroll around the area with the mouse and keyboard.
