 I have a very similar issue to this case, so I'm reporting it here - I
 typed a very, very long string with no spaces and then pressed ! a few
 times for good measure.  My CPU usage jumped to 50% (100% on one core) and
 the text area stared jittering; neither the conversation window nor my
 Buddy List would respond to input so I killed the program and restarted.

 Pidgin 2.4.1 + Windows XP (for x86) + default theme
