 I didn't think about the different servers. You're probably right and it's
 also probably not necessary to try with the different packet sizes. I have
 yet to see a packet that's larger than the doubled buffer size from that
 particular server. Should we accept that as being acceptable until we find
 a better solution? It's not an ugly hack, and it seems to work rather
 reliably, provided that packet is never larger than the buffer size.
