 A longtime Pidgin user, I registered for this site for the purpose of
 adding my own datapoint to this discussion: a UI change is badly needed
 here.

 At the very least the default size of the input area should be
 proportional to the size of the window it's in.  A tall window on a
 24-inch monitor with a two-line input area?  Awful.

 Keep the goofy auto-height thing, but at least give me 25% for input, 75%
 for messages by default.  And bring back manual resize.  Even though I
 KNOW it does not work, I still find myself trying it.
