Comment:

 Ah... you clicked on the buddy in a chat, not in the buddy list.

 If you look carefully, you'll notice the buddy's name in the chat is
 "chatname at chatserver.tld/buddyname" - the log is being saved with that
 user (not "buddyname" directly).  This is because the name in the chat
 isn't necessarily related to the user's JID on the server.

 How did you access the logs when you couldn't find the entries you were
 looking for?
