 My apologies I had forgotten an ugly step that may take me outside the
 "supported use case".  Basically when adding the account I made the domain
 name unique and then when it failed to connect I went in and modified the
 account by correcting the domain name.  Two points. 1) This "workaround"
 appears to work until you restart, 2) Other co-workers have indicated that
 an older version (ie 2.3.1) of Pidgin doesn't have this same problem.
 Also I want to add that I think this should be supported.  My use case is
 that my company is migrating from one IM system to another.  I will have
 contacts on both for quite some time.  Is this intentionally being
 removed?  Finally to actually answer your question I'm definitely using
 Pidgin 2.4.1.  What other common applications would use libpurple?
