 Your problem will not be helped by this change, and is somewhat unrelated.
 I remain unaware of any locations that pidgin explicitely grabs focus to
 the buddy list window that aren't the result of direct actions (like
 editing a buddy alias). Though it is entirely possible that on non-EWMH
 wms GTK+ is doing this for us. What wm are you using swaters?
