Perhaps dismissive scorn was a bit harsh.
Numbers of people responding about this not large or huge in any way?!?
You've had many tickets created about dropping manual input field
resizing, there are numerous posts in other linux forums about the issue,
the wikipedia page for pidgin mentions the controversy, a fork of pidgin
has been created, and there is a lengthy post in this site's news section
about it. What other feature change has caused this much commotion?
Perhaps it would help if you explained to users the perceived
''advantages'' of removing the manually-sized text input field. What is
the benefit that developers can apparently see but users cannot? Besides
"we like it this way" :)
Having it as a plugin is perfectly fine (I am using it now). Given the
demand, it would be nice to be included as a default plugin.
