 No, it looks like this is actually Apple's perl configuration causing it.
 I had hoped that the --host argument to configure ''might'' have helped.
 Really the only thing I can suggest at this point is to disable perl
 support, '''or''' install perl via macports or fink, then direct the
 configure script to look at ''that'' perl.
