> As I noted in another ticket related to the automatic resizing, we had
similar numbers of complaints about our changes to the buddy list and
status UIs in the transition from 1.5.0 to 2.0.0. The complaints died
down after several weeks. The loss of protocol icons as status indicators
is a dead issue and has been for many months now. The change to a status
selector that is a first-class citizen in the buddy list window also
caused some friction that died down after a short time. The same will
happen with the input area resizing given time.
Er yes, the icon issue died down because, silently, in the next release,
YOU EFFECTIVELY UNDID YOUR CHANGES. You made the program worse, people
complained, and then you fixed it -- only without admitting you were wrong
or admitting you fixed anything. And this is what you're doing again. All
you need to say is "yeah, we totally fucked up. We'll improve on that."
But instead you maintain, as before, that fixing your regressions
constitutes "a step backwards". So you have to fix it a different way. If
experience is any guide, the eventual replacement ''will'' be better than
what came before, but here's a suggestion from the backseat driver
department: if your experiments on the path to progress break shit, DON'T
RELEASE THEM TO THE INTERNET ''BEFORE'' YOU FIX THINGS. And if you do,
don't pretend your shit isn't shit! The problem isn't code or pixmaps. It
never was. The problem is you have no clue whatsoever how to communicate
with your users, and this results in them getting pissed of at you on a
regular basis. (Your denial of it in the very first sentence of your own
post simply suggests that you are, as the paper says, "Unskilled and
Unaware of It").
