it's optional now. how long did developers insist, that it cannot be
optional?

Smooth scrolling was never ''not'' optional in a release.

> I am a developer too and I cannot stand that attitude, I just don't have
a words. How can you say something like that? You don't care about your
users? Major linux distributions are including your software as a default
IM - that's a responsibility you should care of. You're not writing this
just for you, you're writing it for millions of users. And following your
website “''If you are a regular user, we encourage you to let us know
about any problems you encounter and to provide us with suggestions for
improvement.''” - we are asking about an improvement, make it
'''optional'''.
Yes, we encourage our users to ''discuss'' the software with us. We are
not obligated to act upon any discussion, nor are we obligated to change
our opinions when we don't agree with the arguments presented. We're not
even obligated to provide a mechanism for submitting any form of feedback.
The fact of Pidgin development is that we wrote it for ourselves. We
released it to the world '''in the ''hopes'' that it would be useful to
others.''' There is a huge difference between this and bending over
backwards to satisfy every request or complaint. If our desired
development path no longer makes the software usable, we're sorry, but
you'll need to find another piece of software to meet your needs.
As for the resizable input area, it already is optional, as a plugin
clearly now exists to restore the functionality. The "improvement" you
desire has been made.
