 Granted it's a rather specific problem, but I use the
 [http://sa.tweek.us/emots/|SA Emoticons for IM Clients] package for my
 smilies in Pidgin and it's a pretty, well, humongous smiley package.
 Pidgin works fine normally, I can type in the commands to use any of the
 smilies, but if I click on the Smile! button that lists all the smilies
 you have available, the window is gigantic and when I attempt to close it
 pidgin almost always crashes.

 Perhaps some sort of pagination on the smiley list would help in rare
 cases like this?
