 In former times, I was using Windows XP and I had the same problem. I used
 to hibernate the system and resume it again instead of rebooting it. This
 caused Gaim to run for several months (although the computer was
 hibernated most of this time) without being restarted.

 Gaim's memory usage was ascending all the time, sometimes i noticed
 something like 1GB.

 The difference in my case is that I was using Gaim heavily.
