 Just wanting to chip in a little here for some perspective.

 I have been using Pidgin and Gaim on windows XP for years.  I have never
 seen any memory usage like that.  I leave the software running for a week
 at a time and it usually hovers around 19MB of memory usage, even after a
 week.

 My PC is Windows XP SP2, fully patched.  I run the current release of
 Pidgin 2.4.1 I have a fair range of plugins and the Guifications.  I do
 not use the suspend or Hibernate on the PC and it stays on over night.

 I cannot image what is causing the large memory usage, are you logged into
 any chat sessions that might be storing the conversation in memory?
