 Personally I'd also like to have the option to set the status message box
 to be visible at all times.

 Perhaps an option could be added to the Pidgin preferences allowing the
 user to choose the behaviour of the status message box when no text is
 entered - ''"hide"'', ''"show on hover"'' or ''"show always"'' ?
