 All the values you requested from the task manager are normal.    This
 pidgin 2.4.3 GTK+ 2.14.1, but i've had the same problem in XP for the past
 9 months since I've been using pidgin in XP.

 It happens about 10% of the time when anything causes the GUI, as opposed
 to the content within it.  As in, causing the input box to grow, resizing
 the window, dragging a tab around, changing the Windows theme.

 Since it happens to me about 10/day and it's not been fixed for 9 months,
 it must be something particular about my setup.  I'm going to try removing
 all my preferences and settings and starting with a default configuration.
