 Sorry for commenting on such an old ticket, but I still have an issue with
 this.

 Ctrl+w is an old standard way of closing a tab in applications that have
 tabs. Try it in any editor or browser or whatever you can think of. I do
 not understand why this shortcut has been disabled.

 If people want to use Esc than that's fine with me but I don't see why we
 can't have two shortcuts that do this.

 Also, since it's still possible to use Ctrl+w (by disabling the Esc
 shortcut), it should be noted somewhere.
