Comment:

 When I launch Pidgin and it "ignores" the environment variable, I'm using
 a shortcut on my desktop. When I launch Pidgin with -d, I'm doing it from
 a command prompt.

 I'll try logging out or even rebooting, but at that point this is becoming
 silly. Why can't there be a simple option to set a log location?
