 This actually sounds like a different problem.  First of all, both GTK+
 versions should be binary compatible and unless something is messed up,
 you wouldn't get these prompts.

 The "our" system-wide GTK+ is not added to the PATH and will only be used
 if GIMP specifically tries to use it.

 What I suspect is happening here is that somehow (maybe because of an old
 installation or something), the system GTK+ was added to the AppPath of
 the gimp.exe, but not for the GIMP plugins (each of which is a separate
 executable IIRC), causing the tons of popups.

 At any rate, this isn't something that we're doing wrong.
