 I was looking into this more yesterday and when I tried my Video4Linux
 webcam in Hardy x86_64 it crashed on me as well. I tried running "gst-
 launch-0.10 v4lsrc ! fakesink" and it froze and wouldn't let me kill the
 process. I just tried running the same thing on my laptop which is Hardy
 x86 (32 bit) it worked fine and so does Pidgin.

 That made me wonder, does your webcam work in itself? Could it be that
 there's something faulty with 64 bit, the driver or perhaps something
 else?
