 obscure crashes really shouldn't take priority over basic UI
 functionality. and if you want to make judgement calls like that, at least
 have the courtesy to
 a) warn people ahead of time that installing the update will break basic
 functionality instead of telling that Pidgin might not work if they don't
 upgrade a minor version.
 b) that it will break for every GTK app on their system OR have Pidgin
 keep its own version of GTK, just like the GIMP does. not ideal, but at
 least it won't screw up the usability of 9 other apps.
