 I was getting the same error so i've just recompiled with "--enable-nss
 --disable-gnutls", and this is what happens now:
 The first time it runs it ask me whether i want to accept the certificate
 (which expires in november 2008), and i accept it.
 The next times it works without asking.

 It has created this file
 ~/.purple/certificates/x509/tls_peers/rsi.hotmail.com

 Debian etch (stable).
