 I think pidgin as of 2.5.1 ships with a default set of certificates that
 covers this, but to use our set of certs you will need to configure
 without --with-system-ssl-certs. I am not sure what it would take each
 distro to update their certs though.

 If you still have a problem after configuring _without_ --with-system-ssl-
 certs, please let me know.
