Comment:

 Extra tabs and spaces are caused by OTR, I believe.  That is its way of
 advertising its presence to the remote party.  (Or maybe it's gaim-
 encryption; I forget.)

 357 273 277 is probably the BOM, although I'd have to convert it to be
 sure.  This is caused by pastes in older versions of Pidgin.  If you are
 not using 2.5.2, upgrading to 2.5.2 should fix it.
