 Yes, it largely features XMPP transport and Message Archiving as discribed
 in these extensions.

 But enhancing it with '''24/7 availability''' (afaik transports disconnect
 when the client disconnects from the server) and '''simultaneous usage of
 multiple clients'''. (Think of displaying the video of a video-chat* on
 the TV using one client on a HTPC/appleTV, while using another client on
 your PC to type the messages)

 * I know, v-chat is far away especially using transports, it's just an
 example.
