 Ok,
 Here are my notes:

 Go to:

 www.msn.com

 Open Hotmail (even if you have a "messengeruser account" without Hotmail).

 Click on "Go to your contact list"

 Find the contact.

 Click on "Edit"

 Click on "Use Address with Windows Live Messenger"


 At this point, one gets the error:
 '''This instant messaging address is not valid for use with Windows Live
 Messenger. Please enter valid Microsoft Passport Network credentials.'''

 So,
 I copied the e-mail address into the "Windows Live ID"

 Which now generates the error message:
 '''Your contacts can't be saved right now. Please try again later.'''

 I assume this message is due to using the "messengeruser" account.
