 I can confirm this bug and I can confirm it's rather annoying. I
 experience this both under Windows and Linux (Ubuntu). The proposed
 workaround of changing hotmail contact settings did NOT work.

 Linux Pidgin 2.4.1 under Ubuntu 8.04 AMD64
 Windows Pidgin 2.5.1 under XP SP3
