New description:

 This happens multiple times a day with the regular pidgin install. With
 the debug install, I've only seen it happen once today so far. It seems
 pretty spontaneous and random but I believe it only ever happens when a
 message window is open (in my experience, it has only happened with AIM)
 and an IM conversation is occurring back and forth.

 It might not be an AIM issue but I can't be sure of anything. I use
 windows vista home premium with service pack 1 and all the latest windows
 updates.

 When it happens, I lose all control over everything about pidgin, the IM
 window looks really funky and all the text disappears and/or distorts
 before windows kicks in and pops up a button that says "close the program"
 or something.

 I believe it's basically just a freeze and perhaps windows vista
 automatically sets frozen programs to pop up that little button that says
 "close the program" and that there's something wrong with it like it isn't
 responding or something.
