I had originally submitted this patch to Joachim Breitner (mail at joachim-
breitner.de) last month, but never got a response back. He is the official
maintainer for the Pidgin-Blinklight plugin (formerly known as Pidgin-
Thinklight). I think he may be too tied up with his studies to reply right
now, so I hope passing this on directly to the Pidgin maintainers won't be
 breaking the rules.

My ASUS A7J laptop led light doesn't blink when I get a message, but I
think I've fixed that. I've attached a patch to be applied against pidgin-
blinklight_0.9 source Debian/Ubuntu package. My driver is provided by the
asus-laptop module (which replaces deprecated asus-acpi) and uses sysfs
(/sys) instead of /proc. So this should fix the problem for everyone with
an ASUS laptop. Right now the LED is r/w for root and read only for
everyone else (asus-laptop module creates these and their respective
permissions). But that's not the Blinklight plugin's problem and I will
try to take care of this over with the asus-laptop project people.

In response to the TipsForPatchWriters wiki, my full name is Kip Warner
and my email address is kip AT thevertigo.com.
