 The problem I'm running into now is inconsistencies in the IMName being
 set... After looking at it again, I noticed one buddy of mine who has
 signed on ONCE with MySpaceIM (The official client) has no IMName set.
 Another, who is on all the time (but I neglected to check) also has no
 IMName set. Perhaps there is something more I'm missing...

 Every other contact I've looked at who have been online seem to have the
 IMName field set.
