 I would like to be able to share certain folders/directories to my
 contacts, that is: they should be able to download files from
 folders/directories on my machine that I have specified.

 Sharing permission might be a little tricky. An ideal solution would be
 that you have one setting where you can add folders all users can access,
 one setting for groups and finally a setting for individual contacts.
 Furthermore, you probably need a list where you list users that should be
 excluded. I am aware that this is just a sketch of a system for
 permissions and that it might need some discussion so please add your
 ideas or comments to this report.
