I am experiencing many problems with Pidgin. So much so that I have
started to use Yahoo Messenger and Miranda again.
1. Privacy settings - ...the settings don't stay. When I set someone as
"appear permanently offline", it seems to work for that session. But when
I exit/close the program and open it the next day, it doesn't remember
that setting. I set it again, and, once again, when I close and restart,
it doesn't remember the setting.
2. Groupings - ...the settings don't stay. Same problem as above. I put
people into grouped categories and when I exit/close the program and open
it the next day, people are not in the groups that I've moved them to.
3. "Not on server list" - ...or something similar. I add people and
immediately I get the message that they are not on the server list; but if
I go back to Yahoo Messenger and do it, they are added fine. I have ALOT
of listings like that on Pidgin, but strangely enough they are listed fine
on YM and work properly. I am very perplexed by this.
4. Adding Hotmail contacts in Yahoo. One of the features I enjoy the most
about YM is that I can add my colleagues that use Hotmail/MSN to my Yahoo
interface and I am able to communicate with them without needing my own
Hotmail/MSN account. What makes this even more baffling is that Pidgin
will recognize SOME of my cross-platform listings from Hotmail to Yahoo
(the ones I added in Yahoo Messenger) but not all of them. Then, when I
try to add a colleague's Hotmail ID to the Yahoo interface on Pidgin,
Pidgin gets real dumb all of a sudden and tells me it can't do that or
that the person is not on the server list. Again, if I go back to YM and
add the Hotmail contact, then return to Pidgin, Pidgin is okay with it.
What is going on here? Sometimes Pidgin wants to acknowledge Hotmail
contacts from Yahoo and others times it does not.
Right now, these above problems are keeping me from enjoying your program.
