Comment:

 The problem here is that Pango (which GTK+ and consequently Pidgin
 uses to do text rendering) doesn't handle all fonts on windows (see
 [GnomeBug:142579] for a discussion of
 this).

 This particular issue is more related to:
 [GnomeBug:101856].
 Pango doesn't work with symbol fonts without a Unicode map.  Note that
 what is fixed is that it used to cause crashes.

 There isn't anything we can do about this, Webdings is really a misuse of
 glyph mappings, so there is no magic way to make it work with Pango.
