 Solution fails on links due to pidgin's auto url linkification.  Filed a
 bug with the plugin developers
 [http://plugins.guifications.org/trac/ticket/474] but I'm not sure how the
 ordering can be fixed unless there is some other signal they should be
 connecting to instead.
