#4922: Pidgin doesn't accept typed in passwords in connect dialog

If I have no password saved in my accounts.xml Pidgin will (rightfully)
prompt me to enter one. However, at least in the case of XMPP it will not
transmit the password I type. I confirmed this by enabling debug mode in
Pidgin and looking at the sent logs as well as enabling full logging on a
jabber server, and was able to confirm no password was being transmitted.
I deleted ~/.purple, reinstalled Pidgin and libpurple, and still the
problem remained. The only way I was able to get password authentication
over XMPP to work was with the Save Password option.
This is highly frustrating, since we use encrypted XMPP and LDAP
authentication and I am (and others are) forced to store our passwords in
cleartext.
I am aware of http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/PlainTextPasswords and your
position on the matter, Just want to be able to use the password dialog
window since, as you claim, it is more secure, but only when it is
working.
