Comment:

 It should take pidgin exactly as long to notify you of a connection
 failure as it takes the connection attempt itself to fail, if you are
 seeing a disparity there please indicate what you are seeing exactly. If,
 however, you just think the connection attempt isn't failing quickly
 enough then there isn't anything we can do about that.

 Clicking the error button and then using your window managers close
 function on the dialog dismisses the error button the same way clicking on
 either of the "Modify Account" or "Reconnect" buttons do (the button is
 dismissed when clicked, regardless of what later happens in the dialog).

 Adding a 'Disable" button to that dialog is not an unreasonable request.
 Please file a new ticket for this.

 If you disable the account pidgin should not subsequently try to reconnect
 that account, if you are seeing that (and ideally you see pidgin
 continuously attempt to reconnect that account) please file a new ticket
 about that specifically.

 Multiple requests in a single ticket makes it hard to track ticket
 completion.
