 It sounds likely that your self compiled version of pidgin is still using
 the system libpurple library and not your self compiled libpurple, which
 would mean that the release notification plugin (which gets the version
 from the core) will be getting a different version than the About dialog
 lists (because it lists the UI version). This sounds rather like a bug in
 the release notification plugin to me as it quite likely should be
 checking the UI version and not the library version (though perhaps we
 need to check both).
