 Aha.  The logs on the Adium ticket are useful.

 I think I know what is happening here - the crash only occurs when the
 file transfer goes directly from peer to peer and not when it is routed
 through a file transfer proxy.

 The problem is that we receive the acknowledgment of how the recipient is
 going to receive the file '''after''' it is already sent (there are a
 couple things wrong with this scenario).
