Comment:

 That preference was removed because it was an ugly hack instead of the
 correct solution. pidgin 2.4.2 should use GSSAPI when it is available. If
 that is not happening then please post the debug window output (properly
 sanitized, so remove large blocks of base64 encoded data, etc.) of a
 failed XMPP connection attempt and we will try to figure out what is going
 on.
