Comment:

 You should not have to edit the file by hand to make this work, if you
 have the Play sound checkbox checked in pidgin and save the pounce it
 should update that file correctly. Open the debug window (Help->Debug
 Window) and then attempt to edit and save the pounce and see if the debug
 window lists the pounces file as being saved and whether it lists any
 errors doing so.
