 > I am sorry, but saying something like "I don't use it like that, so I
don't care if you're having problems" is exactly the kind of attitude
which makes users of your software take to their heels.

I'm not saying I don't care about this "problem". Only, Pidgin wasn't
designed to be a text editor. If you're complaining about you can't code
in Pidgin, I would tell you to to use something else, and so would anyone
else. If you realy, really want to code in Pidgin, I suggest writing a
plugin that has all the features a modern text editor has.

 >It is such a small change to add the ability to resize this box; it
doesn't hurt anyone, and obviously many people would like to have it.

And it's "such a small change" to add code higlighting or a search/replace
 feature too.
Pidgin must focus on it's goal: being a usable IM client.

 > I understand if you're feeling pissed off if you just implemented a new
feature and nobody seems to like it, but such is life.

I don't think the devs are pissed off about this, now they won't have
their input boxes in random sizes.
