 jarring'''

While I found an auto-resizing input box bothersome (initially it wasn't
even apparent that it resized), I've been living with it, and it seems to
work fairly well, except for the issue quoted above. (I haven't
experienced the bug where the input size is near zero lines.) Text jumping
around in the received message pane is indeed quite distracting, as it is
indistinguishable from newly received messages. So with each change it
grabs your eye and requires reviewing the content to see if what you're
typing has become irrelevant by what someone else is saying.

I'm not sure what the solution would be. If you don't scroll the received
text, you end up covering up the most recent messages. You could swap the
position of the input and received text boxes, such that the expanding
input box would encroach upon the older received messages, but that'd be
even more jarring for most users.

I agree with seanegan that it is worth the effort to fix the issues he
highlighted with this feature, rather than abandoning it entirely, as
there are advantages to it, but I also think there should be a setting to
revert to the old behavior for those still dislike the new behavior.
