 As per request, I post again:

 No, I do not find it an acceptable solution to take control away from the
 user when clearly the user wishes to have this control back. Personally, I
 resize my text area fitting to my current need of the messenger as well as
 my current desktop layout. There are, for example, times when I have
 multiple windows open side by side during my workflow, yet I still need to
 be able size my input box in a way that benefits me and does not distract
 from my focus. A set value cannot anticipate such factors (yes, this also
 includes the area being too big, not only too small).

 Note:
 I also find the attitude of certain people (who I will not name) in this
 'thread' increasingly condescending and offending. I am well aware that
 Pidgin is a free software and as such, the developers are under no
 obligations to cater to their users' wishes, but I cannot imagine that
 making the user feel as if they are, to be frank, too stupid to know how
 to use their Instant Messenger 'properly' is in the teams' interest.
