 Yes, but marginally so. I set my input box size probably a year or more
 ago and haven't needed to touch it since. Occasionally I exceed the size
 of the box, but the consequences of scrolling aren't even enough of a
 negative to motivate me to adjust the box size.

 The only benefit to me of the auto-resize mode is that it permits having a
 slightly smaller default input size, which permits more received message
 text to be viewed. But 30% or more of the messages I send trigger a
 resize, and that leads to a negative (see below) behavior, which outweighs
 this advantage.

 Yes, there is the major benefit of eliminating the jumping text in the
 received message pane. Unless a solution is found for that in the auto-
 resize mode, the advantages of the auto-resize mode don't outweigh the
 negatives.
