Comment (by muirheadd):

I would interpret what he means as: Pidgin used to allow the user to
manually adjust the size of the text area using a sizing control - and it
remembered the last size the next time Pidgin restarts. However, in 2.4.0,
it appears that the user's ability to manually size the text area has been
removed and replaced with an auto-sizing mechanism.

I am running Firefox 2.0.0.8 on CentOS 5 w/ Gnome 2.16, and the text area
is auto-resizing to less than one line tall - it's just a sliver and I
have to hunt around with the cursor to get input focus into the text area.

This is so annoying and unusable (after only an hour of trying to use it)
that I'm uninstalling 2.4.0 and rolling back to an old version until this
 gets fixed.

The choice of manual resizing vs auto-resizing should be a configuration
option or it should be eliminated altogether.
