Comment (by grassmonk):

I agree with all of the points made by [comment:82 rfgiusti]. I have been
using Gaim/Pidgin for the last 5 years or so, on both Windows and Linux,
and have had zero problems until now.

However, the new auto-resize behavior drives me absolutely crazy. I
routinely send longer-than-4-line messages to people, e.g. code snippets,
quotes, etc. I don't mind scrollbars if I paste 100 lines into my, say,
20 line input area, and I also don't mind if I only type two characters
into that same 20 line input area. I want a fixed size, and I want it to
be as big or small as I choose.

As others have pointed out, why can't auto- and manual-resizing be
mutually exclusive? Let auto-resizing be the default, but ''let me turn
it off'' if I want to. If the old behavior of dragging the text area to
my preferred size cannot be restored, why not the the ability to set a
min/max number of lines for the input window, instead of the hard-coded
2/4 values (or even a min/max percentage)? Whatever the solution may be,
I don't want the input area to auto-resize, ''ever''.
